[gn][fvm-host] Fix shortening and sign compare warnings in sparse-paver

Pending gn host build is less lenient than current make build:

- Shortening are time_t -> unsigned int and expected truncation of
  rand_r() return to uint8_t.
- Sign comparisons are return values from seek/write checking for
  negative before casting to compare with unsigned.
