[files_async] Add error type, tests; remove bugs

This change:
 * modifies readdir()'s signature to return a strongly typed error enum
 on error
 * extracts the dirent parsing logic into a separate function for
 testing
 * fixes a few buffer overrun bugs in the dirent parsing logic
 * renames DirentType and dir_type to DirentType and kind
 * adds tests for readdir and readdir_recursive
